You’re allowed to change…

How do you really feel about your WhatsApp group chats?
Do you have a million of them like I do?
And which group chat titles make you laugh every time they pop up?

Over the years, my list of group chats has grown wildly and I’ll admit, I love creating them. I love naming them and choosing the perfect sticker to go with them. My niece does too, so it’s become our little creative ritual.

One of my all-time favourites is our “Sisters 😂” chat. It’s where we share all things sisterhood: the highs, the lows, the lols, the support and our unique personalities expressed through memes and Instagram links.

Recently, someone shared an article about the roles we play in our families. It was fascinating AND confronting in the best way. The message underneath it all was this: ‘just because we’ve played a role doesn’t mean it’s true anymore’.
And then came the invitation we all needed: ‘we’re allowed to change’.

Deep, I know. But honestly, I love that. I’m craving the kind of depth that inspires, transforms, and nudges us toward growth.

After our morning message marathon, I looked down to see Sammy, my partners 8‑month‑old golden retriever, completely tangled in his lead. He was smiling up at me, blissfully unaware that he looked like a pair of old earphones pulled from the bottom of a handbag. It made the moment even sweeter.

As I untangled him, I couldn’t help but think; maybe we all need a little help to untangle ourselves so we can grow.

Here’s the thing, it’s often hardest for the people who know us best to see us in a new light. Friends, family, partners, colleagues… change can feel unsafe for them. Threatening even. Sometimes the version of us we’re becoming challenges the version of us they’re comfortable with. So, they unconsciously try to keep us the same.
It makes sense doesn’t it? And I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve done it too.

But just like Sammy, sometimes we need neutral spaces, people, and places to help us untangle and grow into the change we’re seeking. Maybe that’s why I’ve always loved travel; you get to show up as who you are now. No past, no baggage. Just your bright pink backpack, a smile, and endless possibility.

So, if you’re standing on the edge of change in 2026, I want to share the new role I’m stepping into. I’m the Director and Founder of Growth Space Co, an affordable student counselling service open to the public (16+). We’re built on the belief that ‘change, and growth happen in the right spaces, with the right conditions, and with genuine human support to help us untangle’.

It’s more than a counselling clinic. It’s a community. A village.

I don’t fully know this version of me yet, Director Laura, but I’m ready to grow into her and I’m surrounding myself with people who allow that change.

Today, I invite you to do something beautifully simple and wildly impactful.

Think of someone in one of your epic group chats who’s on a path of growth or searching for something new.
Be curious. Ask them what they’re working toward, what they want to shift or change?
Then ask, How can I support you with that?

This tiny moment of care might become one of the most transformative turning points in their life.

And if they’re seeking support, send them my way HERE.

It’s a step in the right direction and you my friend, will have just watered the seedlings of change for someone you love.

Let’s bring the healthy village back.

Love ya x
