Keep the Air Con on

This cover photo is what I’m staring at as I type out this piece, which arrived right after eating a paddle pop with the air con on!

Firstly- I’ll translate.

For those of you not from the land of slag, Australia, air con is short for air conditioner and in Victoria, it’s a rare occasion to need it these days.

Paddle pop. Well that’s a delicious ice cream treat you can buy at the servo when you fill up with fuel.

Oh and finally- servo is petrol station!

Ok, we good?

As I’m eating my paddle pop, bought from the servo, driving in the Friday afternoon sunshine, I contemplated turning the air con off to save on petrol. The cost of living crisis is real and my new (second hand) car is one thirsty Subaru.

As I went to turn it off I thought to myself…

‘Babe, just keep the aircon on and enjoy’!

I know this sounds weird, but I gave myself permission to be fully comfortable in the moment. To enjoy the cool air that was saving my paddle pop from melting into a chocolate puddle.

As you know by now, I’m a thinker. And, I began wondering where else one might need permission to ‘keep the air con on’ and enjoy the moment?

Here’s what came to mind and heart…

When someone gives you a compliment. Instead of minimising it… ‘keep the aircon on’ and enjoy the moment. Accept it, feel it and say thank you 😍

When you’re given a moment to connect instead of hustle. ‘Keep the air con on’. Choose play, or connection, a giggle or a kiss over the hustle. Maybe it’s with your child, friend, dog, or your lover.

When you’re offered support. ‘Keep the aircon on’! Accept the help, you are worthy of having people love and support you back.

Buying the cheaper groceries or the ones that fill you up with goodness. ‘Keep the air con on’ and buy the salmon. Does that even make sense? Phew!

Last but certainly not least. When there’s a moment to pull over, take a pause and stare gratefully at a gorgeous view. Grab it.

‘Keep the aircon on’!

Metaphors are a great way to remind our minds of what’s important to us. If this is resonating with you, I ask you, what could be a ‘keep the air con on’ moment for you that you’re willing to fully enjoy?

Air con moments aim to leave you feeling more worthy and at ease within. If the moment you choose leaves you feeling worse afterwards, then… it might be the wrong button.

That’s ok, try again.

As we all navigate this cost of living, busy is better crisis, I invite you to consider the moments of simple bliss available to us at exactly the same time. And may you know you are worthy to keep the aircon on.

Can’t wait to see who/if this resonates with anyone?

And if not… I blame this hot weather for making me dehydrated, delirious… and truly grateful!

With Luca 💛
