Those annual leave Christmas vibes kicked in as soon as I closed my laptop on Friday afternoon.
I got my active wear on, jumped on my bike and rode straight into a sunny head wind, guiding me to my family for fish n chips and drinks in the park.
My playlist was inspired by the latest Beckham documentary. Posh and her gal pals were singing ‘Wannabe’ to me, whilst I sang it the non smiling runners running past me.
This is 40! Less sh*ts given 😉!
The riding, the spice girls, the early evening sunshine and the strong head wind all had me smiling from ear to ear.
Smiling… and thinking.
Sometimes riding into a headwind can be fun, when you know it’s going to be over soon.
I work with and love many people who like to ‘live’ in strong headwinds- often. When I say headwind, I’m also referring to that day to day life hustle that can sometimes feel like a satisfying uphill climb. The challenge of it, the effort of it really does feel inspiring. It stretches us and helps us grow.
‘Nothing worth having comes easy’ they say… or can it?
I work with and love these people, but honestly, I’m not quite one of them. I do love a head wind, an up hill satisfying challenge to stay passionate, but I equally love the tail wind pushing me forward and guiding me along the way.
I’ve found an equally satisfying strength and discipline in trusting the flow of life.
This year’s been a consistent head wind hustle for me and so many others. And, as the spice girls sang I wondered…
‘What if I engaged in life with more of a tail wind these holidays? What would that look like?’
Some collective ideas that came to mind, which are simply blissful but not always easy, include…
- Looking at the calendar and instead of adding to it, taking somethings off that really don’t light me/us up. Making space for spontaneity.
- Catching up with loved ones in simple and nourishing ways to avoid the expense, the excess booze and the lengthy commutes. A picnic, a bike ride, a swim, a BBQ with backyard cricket!
- To wear less shoes and clothes, and more bathers and sunscreen.
- Having a self selected flow day/s. Where instead of planning the pants off it, we allow it to unwrap like a present.
- To reduce the to do list, by asking ‘Which of these are head wind or tail wind tasks? Choose tails, just for a few weeks.
- To read a book! Instead of tv or screens- read a delicious book. As we read, breathe. As we breathe, feel our bodies. Sitting with ourselves is a super power and can only strengthen with practice.
- And my favourite tail wind of all is… to go for some fun walks in new locations. Let mama nature inspire us and fill our cups.
Whether you’re single, family’d, coupled or anything in-between, I believe your own version of the above can be applied.
Next time your riding into one of life head winds and it feels less fun then having the spice girls on, ask yourself if there’s a way to get more air in your hair and let it be easier?
Im confident there is, if you really ‘Wannabe’!
With loads of Luca love this Christmas and into the New Year! 💛
