Keep It Simple

I don’t know about you, but as I type this blog piece into my phone, I can’t feel the tips of my fingers. I could barely order my coffee because my words were frozen from the walk over. I also ordered a chocolate croissant and I’m pretty sure I’m mostly gluten free.

I’m sorry for the things I said or did when I was cold’.

Weather chats are something that find their way into most conversations this time of year around Aus.

Frequent recognition about ‘How cold it is, and … How cold is it’… are almost a way of bonding whilst complaining with an absolute stranger.

Recently I was chatting to a new staff member at work who’s relocated from Sydney. Her first comment to me on teams was… ‘Geez, how cold is it?’

After attempting many winters over the years, at my wise old age of almost 40, the following words came out of my mouth.

I know right. But the only way to get through it is to dress warm. No fashion over warmth. Just always dress warm and layer up, then you’ll be fine’.

She half smiled, with blue lips, recognising my ‘Keep It Simple’ (KIS) comment and moved the convo on.

Now, I’m not sure if it’s the new jacket I’ve bought this winter that is generating this warmth wisdom, but it got me thinking….

The mind will always tell the chilly, painful, unbearable story. But the reality is- there’s often a simple answer. Dress warm. Dress for the climate and as you do, your choices about how to live in it will also warm up.

What if this simple approach to winter could be applied… to life?

What if we really did ‘Keep It Simple’ with our problem solving!

The internet (and our mind) will tell you 480,351 complex ways to solve any problem, but inner wisdom is always simple.

Tired = Rest

Overwhelmed = Slow down

Wanting to buy a home = Save your pennies

Need to improve your health= Eat healthy and move your gorgeous body

Miss someone = Call them and tell them

Craving space = Go for a walk

Bored = Get creative/try something new

Cold = Rug up

Do you want to have a go?

It’s fun. It’s simple. It’s easy..

But here’s step 2 of my nearly 40 wisdom.

‘Keep It Simple’ clarity means nothing unless it’s backed up by action . Consistent action!

As we approach a new week, I invite you to have a play. Next time your problem solving and solution finding… try the KIS approach, then act. No more thinking is really needed.

I promise it’s allowed to be this simple and easy sometimes. Will you let it be?

KIS KIS xx
