Moment. It was Saturday late afternoon and I was sitting on my nieces bean bag with their family dog resting on my foot. Whilst drinking a cup of peppermint tea, I was flicking through a wonderful coffee table book which I forgot I bought my sis for Christmas. First name Laura, last name Dory!
What a moment right. I was reading about the cosines of creating a joyful home by simply engaging the senses, whilst experiencing it at the same time. That’s alignment right there!
As I read about house plants in the bedroom evoking a feeling of connection to the natural world, I was reminded of some advice I received on a dance floor recently.
I was at a friends birthday in the heart of a suburb in Melbourne. The venue grabbed my WHOLE attention as I entered with happy plants crawling across the rooftop. The cocktails were amazing, the staff were flirty and the slow cooked pork tacos have been talked about… afterwards!
As we found our way onto a dance floor that hadn’t yet started- we began to dance and laugh creating a vibe within before it spread throughout. You always need someone to get the dance floor started right?!
Inspired by the devil ivy sprawling across the venue, our dance floor moves were accompanied by house plant banter.
I began chatting to one of my friends about my unhappy house plant. It was in a prime spot, sunlight shining on it daily and right next to a vase of flowers on the window seal. When you look at the plant, you almost want to say to it- ‘How can you not be happy here? It’s such a pretty spot.’
But no matter what, it most certainly wasn’t thriving and barely surviving.
Mid track, my friend asked me to reconsider my plants location?
‘Maybe relocate it to a cosier spot in your home, with less sunlight but just enough. Give it a little less water and some time to settle in’.
As I arrived home, I took her advice and made the move. I relocated my plant, redesigned the window seal with a different trinket and went to bed.
I love when you look around a familiar space and notice the tiny tweaks. It’s always the tiny gestures that stand out most to me.
Move forward 6 weeks later and Mr Ivy is literally thriving in his new spot. There has been at least 11 new leaves, it’s greener, happier and requiring less attention from me but receiving more.
It got me thinking…
Sometimes where we think we should be is different to where we need to be to thrive. Sometimes a tiny tweak to our environment, our routine, our lifestyle or even the way we spend our time and energy, can be the difference between surviving to thriving.
As I tune into my readers, I’ll share some tiny tweaks that come to heart…
~ Taking some annual leave from social media.
~ A 30 min present walk a day to clear your mind and energy.
~ Do one less thing on your to do list and one more thing on your fun list. As a fam.
~ Finishing work on time and claim back your afternoon and evening.
~ 5 min pause each morning to set up your day.
~ Less MAFs, more rest (someone needed to hear that haha).
~ When in doubt… repeat this mantra. ‘I deserve happiness, ease, love, support… (insert good thing here).
~ Learn something new- an inspiring podcast a week.
~ Practice more kindness- to yourself and to others.
~ 1 less coffee, 1 or more water.
~ Venture out of your familiar environment once a week. Variety is the spice of life.
If this resonates with you, let me ask you to ask yourself a simple question?
What tiny tweak could you make at the moment that could result in you thriving?
Your truthful answer will sound simple, calm, clear and supportive in its reply.
And if your into growth just like Mr Ivy and I, I ‘dare you’ to try it for a month. One month and see what happens. Message me if you’d like to share your dare.
Big moves leave big impressions, but tiny tweaks create lasting change that makes a big difference.
Let’s grow huh x
P.s. Soul Venture sessions are all about the lasting tiny tweaks- they give me goosebumps their so good. If you want to know more… check out what a soul venture session is here.
