Doggo diaries

I’ve fallen in love 4 times in the last 8 months, it’s been a busy kinda year!

It all started out when I relocated to a small bayside town in the outer surburbs of Melbourne. I’d cook dinner, stroll to a picnic table that show cased the best sunset in the west, and enjoy my chicken and veggies as the sun dropped into the bay.

It was breath taking and simply blissful if I’m honest.

However I was rarely eating my chicken alone, I always had to share it with the bouncy dogs that would run up to me demanding a feed with their smiles and waggy tails. Apologetic owners would run up after them, leading to many funny chats about their furry best mates. Needless to say…I was sold!!!

“I want a dog’ I said out loud!

Although the desire was/is there, the lifestyle I live is not fair for the kinda dog I’m after. But in those moments, when life’s timing and yours are aligned, I sparked the idea of doggo sitting till it’s time for my own.

I raced the sunset and completed my online application and profile to be a pet sitter and the rest, well the rest is history!

Simblissity was born from the knowing that it’s always the simplest of life’s treasures and pleasures that keep our hearts and cups full. Doggo sitting is just that- a simple blissful honour and exchange!

So let me tell you of my 4 greatest loves and what they’ve taught me in the last 8 months.

I’ll start with Harlow. She’s an 8 month old Australian Shepard going on 18! She was my initiation into pet sitting and has the coolest parents. When I met Harlow for the first time she bounced out of her mums arms into mine. No warm up, no playing it cool, Harlow wanted to be friends and I couldn’t be happier.

She’s wild, fun, needs to be stimulated, so happy and playful, easily bored and won’t chill out untill she feels safe. Harlow the party gal made me forget about any order and just play play play, which is exactly what I quietly love to do. After her seeing me let go.. she literally fell asleep sitting next to me on the floor. It was… umm… gorgeous! Play then rest… then Play again! Thanks party gal for the reminder.

Then we have Mr. Monty moo, Mr marvellous, Monty man or my latest- Mr Netflix and chill (cause he would love to do that all day). Monty is a dachshund with attitude. He’s so chilled yet easily excitable, tiny but eats more then me, relaxed as they come but up in a flash when he hears the ruffle of food. Monty… he’s my Wednesday best mate. As I teach classes and type emails, he sleeps in his hamburger bed not wanting for much just the odd cuddle between 2-5pm. He’s a routine dog and thrives with it. We’ve found our gorgeous flow and my smile matches his waggy tail when we lock eyes at drop off. What a dude. Monty Man teaches me the art of how a quick cuddle can be better then a coffee hit and that routine keeps life in order.

Love #3, Mr Gilbert. I don’t know how to say this without sounding creepy, but he literally stole my heart. A mature 6 year old Australian Shepard that sat under my desk while I worked and smiled for 3 days. He watched me play guitar terribly and wagged his tail as if I was a celebrity. He slept next to me for 2 nights and didn’t move unless I did. My goodness Gilbert. I think we both shed a tear when I dropped him home! Some loves are not forever but they certainly have a beautiful impact.

And I’ll finish this piece with Walter the guru! Old mate Walter is a foster dog, his new parents are as divine as he is. He’s cool, calm and connected- I’m sure if it. Walters randomly been around for some fun first dates, my birthday celebrations and his, even through tough phone conversations that needed to be had- Walter was there with his head on my lap pretending to sleep with one eye open! He’s got my back and I’ve got his. He’s always looking at me and I swear I can hear his mind say ‘Luca, chill, be still, no probs, life’s good’. Walter calms me and I’d ditch plans with friends or family for a Walter hang most days- soz.

It’s amazing how these furry friends can crack your heart open and keep it that way. They help you/me laugh, lighten up and heal all with their unconditional love.

I’ve fallen in love 4 times this year and although I look at dogs more then I do at potential men, these little darlings have been the highlight of my year.

What’s the simple things that have lit your year up and added some bliss? Make note, and do more of it!

Keeping it PG and real, which sometimes can be the simple reminder we all need!

Lots of Luca love x
