When I first began to blog, I put all these boring rules in place (in my mind) about…
How frequently I would blog?
How to stay consistent?
What to blog about?
Who my target audience was?
…Blah blah blah, I told you it was boring.
But let me tell you the reality of my writing journey to date.
I go about my day, often engaged where ever I am and with whomever I am connecting with. Then out of the sky drops an idea about a blog piece. The piece often comes with a clear title and then begins to start writing itself in my mind like a series of words just waiting to be put together. I get a sense of the story line, but I’m never really sure what the piece is about until I write it. And, it’s like I get this tiny moment to choose whether I give life to the piece, or if I say a polite ‘No Thanks’ and let it float on by!
On Saturday morning as I was preparing an omelette for myself, music gently filling my small but sweet apartment, a blog piece I had previously said ‘No Thanks’ to in January returned for another visit.
The reason behind my initial ‘No Thanks’ to this blog piece and its title ‘Hot Spots’ was because it felt inappropriate for the National climate we were in.
In January 2020, Australia experienced some of the most horrific and devastating bush fires which have had a huge impact locally and globally. As if I was going to write a blog piece titled ‘Hot Spots’ when our country was burning! Ummmm, ‘No Thanks’!
Ironically, in February or March 2020 (depending on where you live on the globe), we were all thrown a COVID Curve ball that has changed our reality as we know it.
COVID arrived and almost put super glue on our feet- generating an enormous social, economic and psychological PAUSE! I mean this is my interpretation of it and by no means is it right or the only one. We are all entitle to experience this pandemic in a way that makes sense to us.
Months later, after being forced to embrace the global PAUSE, we were given an amber light to start reconnecting again. This was always going to be a transition (AKA Sh*t Show) for humans.
Shortly after, there were identified ‘Hot Spots’ in Melbourne’s Metropolitan region and the amber light changed to RED, returning Victorians back to their 4 walls with our face mask’s on. Oh the irony.
Now. Blog. Hot Spots. What am I on about?
The original intention behind ‘Hot Spots’ was symbolic of areas in our environment that generate a feeling of ‘bliss and enjoyment’.
Pre COVID, maybe that was sitting at a particular café or outdoor bar which had great vibes? Or a walk through a certain park, neighborhood or street that just naturally lifts your spirits. A book shop or gift ware store that you walk into and instantly feel a sense of calm and presence. A particular walking track, a beach track, a bike path or a little town with a cute pub.
I am coining these ‘Hot Spots’… areas of bliss and enjoyment.
Now, back to the kitchen with the omelette and the music gently playing in the back ground.
Currently I have just purchased 2 bench top stools in round #2 of isolation. Truth be told, this was a simple 2020 goal for me (shoot for the stars right haha) and I achieved it weeks ago to create a sense of diversity within the 4 walls I now live, work, do Pilates and sleep within.
The bench stools have created a sweet little ‘Hot Spot’ within my own environment that I look forward to eating omelettes at, teaching at, drinking coffee at and now even writing this latest blog piece.
Although so simple and insignificant to some, this little ‘Hot Spot’ in my home generates such good vibes and is adding some simple bliss and enjoyment to my day.
During these wild and uncertain times, to find some comfort within your space is like finding a small piece of gold right?
Is there a ‘Hot Spot’ in your home that generates this feeling for you?
Maybe it’s the corner of your L Shaped couch? Or that comfy bench stool you love sipping your coffee at in the morning? Tending to the veggie garden? Or that cosey corner in your home where the sun warms up everything from the inside out? Or maybe, just maybe, you’re open to the idea of creating one for the simple joy of it!
With the lack of choice and freedom we are collectively experiencing at the moment, finding and embracing one or more ‘Hot Spots’ in your home environment may add some bliss and enjoyment to your days.
Enjoy the simple things while we ride this global wave together!
We’ve got this.
