It’s a Friday morning and I’ve just driven 1.5 hours to follow a sandy beach track through ferns and scrub (no snakes thank god), to find the most perfect piece of damp sand to sit my cold butt on.
There is not a soul in sight, just me and Fossil Beach having a quiet moment together.
It’s kind of cold but nothing to casually discuss with a stranger in customer service. We do that a bit here in Melbourne.
The sun is shinning lusciously on the burnt orange rocks which hold the bay in place, and I’m having a simple blissful moment which you could almost catch like a basketball.
It’s always in these moments when it feels right to write and it hasn’t felt ‘quite right’ for months now. It’s felt….. neutral.
A ‘COVID 19, hold your breathe, let it be what it is’ kind of neutral.
You too?
In this simple moment at Fossil Beach with the sun warming up my puffer jacket in the background, I’m giggling at the 1.5 hour journey I just went on to catch this ‘basketball moment’.
There was the morning traffic with commuters trying to get to work. There were cyclists in their lycra giving death stares if you got too close to them- less afraid of the people in cars then we are of them. And an older gentleman on the side of the road with his belly out and board shorts on after a dip in mama ocean…. smiling!
Regardless of the effort, this 1.5 hour journey (one way) feels effortless! I used to do this 3 times a week for almost 2 years with a smile on my dial, and this morning felt no different.
It got me thinking about the effortless effort we make for something we love.
I can confidently say I am in love with this bay. There, I said it out loud and so publicly! It literally makes my toes smile and for that reason and feeling, I’m willing to drive 1.5 hours (one way) to hang out for a small amount of time.
I love that effortless effort feeling and I equally love observing it in others.
The effortless effort one makes for someone they love. A child, a partner, a family member, a friend, a dog owner with their best mate by their side.
Or what about the effortless effort we make for a craft or hobbie that also makes our toes smile? A job, small business, education or vocation that just lights you up and has you effortlessly working or learning overtime just cause you’re so keen.
There’s a quote that saids something like…
‘Whatever makes your soul smile, do more of that’.…And I’ll add, ‘don’t judge yourself for whatever that is, just heed the call effortlessly’!
So what is something in your life that feels like Effortless Effort? Something you do for the simple blissful love of it?
Embrace and enjoy more of that I say, you’re worth it…
