The Sum of Us

It’s around 8:52am on a Wednesday morning. I’m quietly sitting in my ‘cosy corner’ nook at home with a fresh bowl of 3 cereals- combined.

Oats– cause I know their good for me and sustain energy for long periods of time

Bran– cause blan bran adds to the delicious crunch factor

Freedom Gluten free rice flakes – cause my sister eats them and when you’re the youngest, sometimes you copy your older sisters. There’s family systems theory to help explain the sibling hierarchy, but I’m just happy to be a copy cat sometimes 💛

Add a handful of fresh berries, a chopped ripe banana, a date for sweetness (those edible ones), a splash of almond milk and there you have a delicious Wednesday morning bowl of 3 cereals.

Oh, and its ok if you want to copy cat that also.

However, this blog piece actually has nothing to do with cereal, nor copy cats!

As I sit here in my cosy nook appreciating a deliberate pause which I have consciously created in my busy week of life, I allow myself time to just be. No plans, no to do lists, no phone catch ups, no housework, no health insurance follow up, no tasks- just a ‘simple blissful pause’ cause I know it’s good for my overall well-being.

Whilst pausing this Wednesday, I observe a young 20+ year old carpenter climbing around dangerous looking scaffolding. The neighbours are extending their home and Mr 20+ year old and a few others are helping them actualise their renovation dream!

He’s carefully carrying 2 bits of steel under one arm, climbing on the peak of the roof frame, holding onto the scaffolding, then manoeuvring underneath the bar- like a game of limbo- to drop the steel off to another part of the house.

He has no idea I’m watching him which sounds so so creepy I know, but I’m totally watching in awe.

a) My toes are scrunched up as I ‘will’ his safety, hoping that he doesn’t fall

b) I realise that it doesn’t matter how much money you have for a home extension, if Mr 20+ year old wasn’t there carefully putting together the pieces- their dream home would never come to fruition.

It got me thinking, there’s just so many of us in this world?!

Sum big, sum small, sum rich, sum poor, sum confident, sum shy, sum smart, sum not so, sum free spirited, sum goal driven, sum pretty and sum plain. Yet, the ‘sum of us’ all is what makes this world go round.

Today I’m grateful to Mr 20+ year old for reminding me how many people help me to actualise my goals and dreams.

The coles staff who sold me my 3 different cereals, the fresh fruit grocer who helped me pick the ripest bananas yesterday when I popped in. Steve Jobs for creating iPhone notes so that when my blog pieces are ready to be written, I can capture them instantly and write away!

As you move through your day, I invite you to take a gentle pause if you will, a moment to say thank you to all the peeps who are actually helping you live your best life. Without each others help- we would only ever have a renovation dream with sum bits of timber

Thanks Mr 20+ year old for what you do, I see you!

Simple Bliss x
