Keep it Real… Estate

What are the filters you select when researching a new property? Whether renting, buying or simply stalking nice properties in your desired location- what are your filters?

How many bathrooms?

How many bedrooms?

Dishwasher?

A bath, is that a must?

A backyard?

Maybe a low maintenance garden with mostly pebbles not grass?

A red front door?

An oven that is fit to cook a feast in?

Location, location, location??

I’m asking you these questions because I’ve had a fascinating realisation in my latest ‘rental’ search on realestate.com

I emphasise the word ‘Rental’ because buying a home is quite a different ‘long term’ ball game, yet some of this realestate wisdom may still apply. Come to think of it, it may also apply to the search for love 🤷🏻‍♀️ #justsaying

As you move through the website options provided, selecting the specs and filters which are most desirable to you- it’s now time to press the ‘show me my new home’ button.. (aka- SEARCH)!

The options available appear on your screen and like a dating site, they match you with homes that fit your criteria! The most perfect matches for you. Or actually- the most perfect AVAILABLE matches for you at that very moment.

Things can go a few ways at this point and especially if time is of the essence! Your search may have spat out options that you’re super enthused by and ready to inspect ASAP!

Or… the options don’t really resonate. They don’t spark that sense of joy, home, bliss, or certainty that you’re looking for.

Shit…Now what?!

I don’t know about you, but one thing I love about this exercise in realestate research is it forces you to remain open minded, patient with a dash of right timing! It can be quite fun and exciting don’t you think?

The process asks you to broaden your horizons and minimise some of those limiting ‘specs and filters’ that you may have applied, so you can open up to other opportunities/homes that might feel just right. Maybe ones without a red front door? Or minus the dishwasher?! Or 6km away from your perfect location?

Throughout this process you get clearer on what you’re looking for or even better, how you want to feel when you find it!

And with all important choices in life, keep researching, apply some trust, patience, trial and error until you find what you may not have known you are looking for.

Home/Love is not a destination, it’s a feeling! And fear town is a shit suburb to live in!

Keeping it simple, blissful and real.
