On the 4th October 2014, my gorgeous big (but a little littler) sister, got married to her soul mate! Being the first one in the family of 3 girls to get married, it was quite the ordeal. My parents had this proud smile on their face, relieved to know that one of their 3 daughters were finally tying the knot.
Myself and the mother of the bride- ‘AKA -Mum’ headed out for a focused Saturday of shopping on Chapel street. We coffee’d, brunched and laughed the morning away. As I casually strolled the shops, mum became antsy walking 4 steps in front of me.
“Focus Laura’ she said, ‘We need to find you a dress”!
I smiled confidently and replied…
“Relax mum, I know what I want…. I want a Red Lace Dress and I can see it in my mind already”.
Reassured, mum takes my lead and we head into shop after shop, greeting and chatting with the friendly staff.
As I pick up a variety of beautiful dresses to try on; everything from green, blue, pocka dot, short, long and shoulder padded dresses, I began feeling deflated. That feeling when you are looking for something and you just can’t seem to find it.
As the day went on my body language had changed from confident to defeated. Our energy levels were dropping and our walking distance was way more then 4 steps apart.
She turns around on Chapel street, looks at me and saids one of the wisest things she’s ever said:
“You said you wanted a Red Lace Dress right? So why are you trying everything else on except for that? Stay focused on what you want, and you will find it. It’s simple Laura”.
With all the temptation, distractions, and green poka dots that life has to offer- I’d lost sight of what I was looking for that Saturday and began making exceptions to what I really wanted.
When you are privedged enough to know exactly what you are looking for- be it…a Red dress 💃🏻 , a new Job, a Life Partner 👫, Vocation, Hobby, Goal 🥅, Travel adventure ✈️ New Home 🏡 , Triathlon 🏃🏼♀️, Road Trip 🚗 , Home Reno,
whatever, then you owe it to your whole self to
b-line straight for it- no excuses or exceptions- you deserve to have what you want!
So, with that focused intent in mind, the next shop didn’t deliver- but the one after that was housing my gorgeous Red Lace Dress. It was waiting for me in my size, way out of my price range and ready for me to try on and then take home!

If you really want it, then stay focused on it and I can guarantee you will succeed cause that’s how this magical universe works. It favours those who stay focused on their desires and believe they are worth it- even if it seems a little out of your price range!
