Tails from the Trail

It’s Called… LOVE

No no no, I haven’t fallen in love with someone on the Camino….. I have literally fallen in LOVE with everyone!

You know that ‘ONE LOVE’ that people like Bob Marley talk about? Well I think Bob walked the Camino before sharing these wise words!

The most common phrases I have heard along my 92km of walking thus far are…

Are you ok?”

“How are your feet?”

“Do you need some help?”

“Can I help you with that?”

“Would you like some blister tape?”

“Do you need some money? “

“Would you like some of my baguette?”

This incredible walk is literally bringing out the natural human instincts of; community, support, sharing and love in so many of us.

In 5 days I have met, slept next, walked, talked and laughed with some of the most kind hearted, friendly, free spirited and generous people of my life- and I don’t know any of them. Most don’t even speak English!

Yet- on this long stroll to Santiago- we are a family of strangers walking a long road together and supporting each other along the way! Along our way!

Now that’s what I call ONE LOVE!

This cultural melting pot of different souls- really restores my faith and hope in embracing diversity and accepting others from all walks of life. The social worker in me is thriving and so grateful to be rejuvenating my community spirit. I won’t be able to complete this Camino/life… alone! I don’t think any of us will.

The path looks and feels different for everyone. I’m learning for me- it’s about Balance.

This pilgrimage can be as fun, serious, intense, spiritual, indulgent, self depriving as you choose it to be. I’m not into self deprivation anymore. Been there, done that! Instead, I walk hard, then I play hard which includes- wine, tapas, coffee, pastries, laughs and selfies! BALANCE!

So I’ll continue appreciating every experience each day, one step at a time. And I hope I can bring a bit more love and SimBLISSity with me- to share with you all!!
